- "Pentagon to Gay Troops: Stay in the Closet For Now" ******************* Pentagon should provide free mental care instead of telling gays to hide in their closets.Homosexuality is a mental illness and can be cured.

- Well homsexuality is not a mental illness. However, homophobia is a mental illness which can be cured. I would suggest that you obtain mental care. However, you shouldn't expect it for free since that would be Socialism.
- Yeah slappy you know what I mean.A man who thinks he's a woman and vice-verse has a serious mental disorder and should be treated.
- All the "experts" who say homosexuality can be cured end up being caught with gay prostitutes, leaving gay bars, hitting up undercover officers in bathrooms for anonymous sex, etc., eventually, so let's say that that "fact" is not very well supported by any kind of evidence. However, homophobia *can* be cured, and once that is cured, then it doesn't matter if people are gay or straight anymore, problems solved and everyone ends up happy.
- The military doesn't want to lose a lot of personnel -- effective, not to mention patriotic, people who happen to be gay.

- The military is meeting its recruitment goals by 100% in all branches of the armed forces. To date, more gays and lesbians have joined and gotten out ahead of their contracts by voluntarily admitting that they were gay or lesbian than being found out by their commands and discharged against their will. Gays and lesbians who sincerely wanted to serve did so, and still do, without repercussions. So apparently DADT works rather well. The problem is that non-military gay and lesbian activist organizations like the oddly named Log Cabin Republicans see the armed forces as a handy conduit to legalizing gay and lesbian marriage in all 50 states since they do not have the support of the Congress or the American people.
- This is one of those "duh" statements.

- Now the President wonders why he's having a hard time getting the "base" excited- does not he know his "base" expects a little more from the civil rights advocate? Please put your constitutional rights on hold for the election which we are loosing anyway so we will have even a harder time getting your rights at some time in the future. I am an Obama Believer but like that questioner pointed out to him it all gets harder to defend him with enthusiasm. The lesser of two evils argument is really not where he needs to be... clearly the White House feels that it can marginalize this issue and take the constituency for granted. Hard to explain this one really- and they all are ready to cry about the teen suicides- do they really think this helps or are they just part of the problem? How does a young person feel when they look at this? Let down I guarantee you- and it certainly does not help the self esteem- maybe he should go campaign for that tea bagger running for Governor of New York.

- The fact is that this judge overstepped her authority and the President has no alternative but to appeal the Judge's ruling. Failing to do so would allow judges to set military policy.
- First, the military does not have carte blanche to ignore or violate all of an American's civil rights- Second, this is not "military policy" that is under review- this is a statute inacted by Congress. A federal judge certainly has the authority to review the constitutionality of a federal statute. This policy was enacted by Congress, not by the military. The military in the US, at least in theory, in under civilian control.
- This Don't Ask Don't Tell policy is a FEDERAL STATUTE entacted by Congress- it is not a "military policy." Certainly a federal judge has the authority, and in fact a Constitutional duty to rule on the consitutionality of federal statutues. So the Judge did NOT overstepp her authority as you stated. And clearly the President did have an alternative to appeal- that was not to appeal. Perhaps you do not understand that under the U.S. Constitution that the military, at least in theory, in under civilian control.
- jsilver.... this goes much deeper than you so naively want. the military justice system is not (up to now) subordinate to civilian justice (with exceptions) they have been run separately. you, and many others seem to think that obama can wave a magic wand and fix all of the inequities of these united states. change happens slowly and steadily. look at the last ten years and see where we are going. don't abandon the path because you want more.
- I can no longer justify defending Obama at all. At a time when we desperately needed a leader, we got an organizer who's always behind in his swing. He promised to be "a fierce advocate" for basic gay rights and promised that "DADT will end on my watch". Yet he failed to take any initiative on Capitol Hill when the repeal of DADT came up for Senate vote. As usual, he was AWOL in the leadership role. Now he wants to pretend to be shocked and deeply saddened by the growing number of suicides among bullied teens, especially gay and lesbian teens. The same attitude that supports DADT is behind the attitudes of the bullies. Under DADT, the victims get penalized by getting kicked out of the service, while the soldiers, the bullies, who are causing the problem through their homophobia are allowed to continue serving. That's exactly backwards. Soldiers are rewarded for their intolerance and discharged for their honesty. That's exactly backwards. His failure to lead on any issue will likely hand Congress back to the Republicans in November, and then DADT will NOT be repealed on his watch. With the growing likelihood of a Republican president in 2012, DADT may not be repealed for another decade and the health care bill will likely be repealed. Thanks for nothing, Mr. President. Now we, your base, can return the favor in November.
- This president is finished and while he saw the handwriting on the wall, many of his dwindling supporters have yet to see it. If attempting to repeal DADT is not enough, this president and his thuggish attorney general attempted to grant citizenship to 16 million or more illegal aliens who criminally breached our borders while legal aliens had to wait years to enter our country. Obama likes to pander to a collection of activist non-conformist groups who think they can break the law or twist the process to get what they want even when they lack congressional or citizen support. Obama has many last nails in his political coffin. I do not think we have seen the last one yet.
- ozilot, armed forces personnel follow orders when they comply with the UCMJ. The policy states DADT. If the squadron flight nurse did not tell on herself by words or actions, then she was in compliance. If no other person inquired of her sexual orientation, then they too were in compliance. So, how was she relieved of duty? Remember, more gays and lesbians are discharged due to their own voluntary and verbal admission to being gay or lesbian than through third party action. Gays and lesbians, who want to serve, continue to serve under DADT.
- Another Obamie promise broken. Hahahahahahaha

- Associated Press: Speaking on the stage of an ornate opera house, Obama said ***** shares the same values as the man whose old Senate seat he's running for ? Vice President Joe Biden. Now why would Obama use a word like "*****" to describe his bruthas? That's an inappropriate term!

- Oh....My....God, CBS bleeps the word "c o o n s"? How are you going to say the Dumbocrat Senate candidate's name who is running in Delaware? How stupid.
- From the article: "Though the Obama administration wants to end the "don't ask, don't tell" policy, it has argued that the policy should be ended through Congress, not the courts" ******************* So disingenuous, because as a lawyer Pres. Obama KNOWS segregation was ended by the courts and not Congress ...

- If you think that was meant to be subliminal, just Google the image of Obama and VP Deferments Biden during the State of the Union Address. Both were wearing neckties with the same precise colors and patterns of Army and Air Force Good Conduct Medals respectively. Tell me that was by coincidence. Vets and armed forces personnel shook their heads in disbelief.
- Only in the land of equality... hahahahahahaha
